The Cones Around Angeline Have End Dates. Ridge Road's Is the Shakiest.

October 8, 2026

Every construction project around Angeline now has a published finish date. They do not all deserve the same trust. The pedestrian bridge going up over SR 52 is a single structure with a clear schedule. The new amenity center on Sunlake Boulevard is in the hands of the developer. The eastward link most Angeline drivers are waiting for, Ridge Road Phase 2, is on hold until a railroad approves a bridge. Its date has already moved twice this year.

So the cones near the Suncoast Parkway will probably come down first. The road that changes how Angeline connects to U.S. 41 will probably come last. Its current target is the earliest it could open, not the most likely date.

The Calendar as of October 2026

Project Location Current estimate What the date depends on
I-75/SR 52 interchange Farther east on SR 52 Fall 2026 FDOT construction schedule
Suncoast Trail overpass SR 52, west of Suncoast Parkway Early 2027 FDOT construction schedule
Suncoast Trail overpass and Touchpoint Drive trailhead SR 54 Summer 2027 FDOT construction schedule
Ridge Road Phase 2, first two lanes N. Sunlake Blvd to U.S. 41 Fall 2027 CSX railroad bridge clearance
The Social amenity center Sunlake Blvd at Topsail Hill Ave Late 2027 Metro Development Group build-out
Ridge Road Phase 2, full project N. Sunlake Blvd to U.S. 41 Spring 2028 CSX railroad bridge clearance
SR 52 widening, construction start East of Ehren Cutoff to Old Pasco Road Fall 2027 FDOT design phase

The column on the right matters most. Four of these schedules are controlled by the agency or company doing the work. The two Ridge Road dates depend on approval from a railroad company.

The Overpass Finishes First, and It Is the One You Drive Through

The Suncoast Trail overpass is a $9.9 million FDOT project being built by Cone & Graham, Inc. Work started January 4, 2026, and FDOT estimates completion in early 2027. It is a pedestrian and bicycle bridge. Most of its effect on daily life, though, falls on drivers at the SR 52 and Suncoast Parkway interchange, where Angeline traffic heading toward the parkway lines up.

FDOT's project page currently lists three restrictions:

  • The westbound SR 52 left lane is closed around the clock, from east of the parkway to west of it, until further notice.
  • The eastbound SR 52 left-turn lane onto the northbound parkway has a partial closure at its west end, also around the clock and until further notice.
  • On the southbound parkway exit ramp to SR 52, part or all of the right-turn lane is closed Monday, October 5, through Saturday, October 10, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Turns are still allowed.

In June, the Tampa Bay Beacons reported that two turn lanes onto the southbound parkway had been closed. Drivers had to make a hard right at the light from the far-right through lane. The lane closures change week to week, so FDOT's project page is the source to check before an early-morning run to the parkway.

The truck detour runs right past Angeline. FDOT is sending large trucks and tractor-trailers south on Moon Lake Road, east on Ridge Road, and onto the southbound SR 589 entrance ramp. That ramp belongs to the parkway exit built in Ridge Road's first phase, which opened in 2021. The same exit serves the Angeline School of Innovation, Moffitt Cancer Center's Speros campus, and Angeline's back entrance. Until the overpass is finished, heavy trucks share that back-entrance route.

The trail itself is expected to stay open during construction. A street-level crossing of SR 52 stays available, with short pedestrian detours when crews are working overhead.

Ridge Road Is Waiting on a Railroad

Ridge Road Phase 2 is the project that changes Angeline's map. It is a 3.75-mile, $85 million extension from North Sunlake Boulevard east to Land O' Lakes Boulevard, also known as U.S. 41. Plans include a 5-foot sidewalk, a 12-foot multiuse path, 5-foot bike lanes, and a new intersection with Connerton Boulevard.

Look at how the date has changed this year. On June 15, 2026, the Tampa Bay Beacons reported that Pasco County had pushed the opening back to early summer 2027 for two lanes, with all four expected by early 2028. Three months later, on September 14, the same outlet reported a new target of fall 2027 for the first two lanes and spring 2028 for the full project.

Both delays have the same cause. The extension has to cross the CSX rail line that runs north and south alongside U.S. 41. The county's Transportation Engineering Department said crews are dealing with schedule impacts from the clearance process required to build a bridge over that railroad. The county also attached a warning to the latest dates:

"subject to change depending on coordination needs with CSX Railroad during construction."

This is why the overpass and Ridge Road deserve different levels of trust. FDOT controls its own crane schedule at SR 52. Pasco County does not control the railroad's clearance process. Both reported delays came from that same process, and nothing published so far says it has been resolved.

A smaller project is now attached to Ridge Road as well. Pasco County plans a $1.9 million extension of Asbel Road from Falcon Crest Boulevard to Ridge Road. It would give the Tierra Del Sol and Asbel Creek & Estates neighborhoods direct access to the extension without using U.S. 41. Final plans are under review by the Southwest Florida Water Management District and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and construction is expected to take about 250 days once permits are issued. No start date has been published. That puts it a step behind Ridge Road, the project it connects to.

The Trail Gap Lasts Longer Than the Overpass Work

On the trail itself, the SR 52 overpass is the smaller disruption. The bigger one is farther south. FDOT's second Suncoast Trail overpass, over SR 54, closed the trailhead at the end of Touchpoint Drive around the clock starting June 23, 2026. The closure is expected to last until the project finishes in summer 2027. When it announced the closure, Pasco County pointed trail users to the Upper Tampa Bay Trailhead on Lutz Lake Fern Road in Hillsborough County as the nearest access point. In a June 9 social media post, the county added, "We know. It's not ideal."

The two overpasses are on different schedules. In June, the Beacons described both as tentatively due in the first half of 2027. FDOT's own SR 54 page now says summer 2027. If the SR 52 bridge opens in early 2027 as estimated, there could be a stretch where the northern crossing is finished and the southern trailhead is still fenced off.

Ridge Road is not a substitute for Touchpoint Drive. In an August 2026 TrailLink review, a trail user reported no parking at Ridge Road or at other road crossings along the Pasco section. Sunlake Boulevard, Angeline's main north-south road from SR 52, was designed with a 12-foot shared-use path, a 6-foot sidewalk, and 5-foot bike lanes. Metro Development Group's brochure says Angeline's internal trails are planned to connect with the regional trail system. That map still marks many segments as future trails. Ridge Road Phase 2's 12-foot multiuse path is the next piece of that network with a published date, and that date depends on the railroad.

The Social Is Scheduled for the Same Season

Metro Development Group and Pasco County leaders broke ground on The Social on September 1, 2026. It sits off the corner of Sunlake Boulevard and Topsail Hill Avenue and will have a tot lot, a resort-style pool, pickleball courts, and a dog park. Metro's September 7 announcement says it is coming "late next year," which means late 2027.

That puts The Social's expected opening in the same season as the first two lanes of Ridge Road Phase 2. One is a private build with a single owner. The other depends on outside approval. If Ridge Road slips again, the amenity center on Sunlake could open before the road that would give Angeline a direct route east to U.S. 41.

Farther out, FDOT's SR 52 widening from east of Ehren Cutoff to Old Pasco Road is still in design, with construction expected to start in fall 2027. The plan widens 4.5 miles to a divided four-lane road with a multiuse trail. That is a start date, so the cones on that stretch will go up just as some of the ones near Angeline come down.

Where to Check Each Date

  1. SR 52 lane closures: FDOT's SR 52 Pedestrian Overpass project page posts closures week by week and offers email alerts.
  2. Touchpoint Drive trailhead: FDOT's SR 54 overpass project page lists the closure through summer 2027.
  3. Ridge Road Phase 2: The Tampa Bay Beacons has reported each schedule change from the county. The next one will likely mention CSX.
  4. The Social: Metro Development Group's groundbreaking announcement is the baseline to compare future updates against.
